Videobrasil activity plan approved for Rouanet act
As it celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Festival dedicated to fostering, publicizing and mapping out contemporary art, and aiming to increase its scope of action and make its activities more comprehensive, Associação Cultural Videobrasil has obtained approval under the Federal Cultural Incentive Act – Rouanet Act for its Annual Plan fundraising project.
Now that it has earned approval from the Ministry of Culture, Associação is apt to receive sums from both natural and legal persons; the sums will be deductible from their income statements. The project approved is designed to foster the Visual Arts production chain, and covers sponsorship to contemporary art exhibitions by artists from Brazil and countries from the so-called political South (Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, South and Southeast Asia, and Oceania); restoring, maintaining, and modernizing the Videobrasil Collection, including the creation of the new online interface, designed to offer over 1,300 rare videos, television shows, artist and curator statements, and recorded performances, democratizing public access to highlights of national and international video production in the last 30 years; and holding multidisciplinary seminars and workshops, to convey knowledge to students and people interested in the intersection between contemporary art and other cultural fields, as well as provide training and exchange opportunities to researchers, artists, and curators.
Videobrasil’s project has been approved under article 18th of the Rouanet Act, which allows for the deduction of 100% of the amount provided for sponsorship, up to a maximum of 4% of the income tax owed by legal persons in each year, and up to a maximum of 6% for natural persons. For example: if a company pays R$ 10 million in income tax to the government, they may earmark R$ 400,000 for sponsoring a cultural project, and will have the same benefits as in a regular sponsorship. If a legal person pays R$ 10,000.00 in income tax, they may provide R$ 600 to a cultural project of their choice. The amount is later refunded as either a deduction or a discount on the income tax of the following year.
Annual Activity Plan projects must be continuous and permanent, and submitted by non-profit organizations; apart from annual activities and actions, the plans may include the organization’s maintenance.
Enterprises or natural persons interested in learning more about the Videobrasil Annual Activity Plan or in finding out how to become a sponsor may write an email to [email protected], or call 55 11 3645 0516, and talk to Adriano Alves Pinto, production Director.
